This Privacy Policy explains how Vermilion Dynasty L.L.C. ("Vermilion," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Vermilion mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service").
2) Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways: (a) you provide it, (b) we collect it automatically, and (c) we receive it from third parties.
A. Information you provide
- Account information: email address, display name (if provided), password (if using email login).
- Apple Sign-In: when you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique, app-scoped identifier and, depending on your settings, your name and email (or an Apple relay email).
- Subscription and support: purchase status and receipts/transaction information (we do not receive your full payment card details when purchases are made through Apple).
- Preferences and settings: watchlists, alert preferences, and notification preferences.
- User content (if enabled): saved items, annotations, comments, or other content you submit.
B. Information collected automatically
- Device and app data: device type, operating system version, app version, language settings, time zone, and basic diagnostic information.
- Usage data: interactions with content (e.g., pages viewed, features used, time spent), and in-app events (e.g., saving an item, setting alerts).
- Log data: IP address, timestamps, crash logs, and performance data.
- Identifiers: device identifiers or similar identifiers (such as a randomly generated app instance identifier) used for security, fraud prevention, analytics, and remembering your preferences.
- Push notification token: if you enable push notifications, we collect a device push token (e.g., an Apple Push Notification service token) to deliver notifications to your device.
C. Information from third parties
- Apple: subscription status and transaction/receipt information for App Store purchases, subject to Apple's policies.
- Firebase (Google): We use Google Firebase to support app analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and push notification delivery and reliability. Firebase may collect device and usage information as described in this Policy to help us operate and improve the Service.
3) Location Information
We do not collect precise (GPS) location.
We may process approximate location inferred from IP address for security and fraud prevention, and to understand broad usage patterns (e.g., country/region). If we do not store or use IP-derived location beyond transient security logs, we treat it as operational log data.
4) How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide and operate the Service (create accounts, authenticate users, deliver content, enable sharing features).
- Deliver push notifications you request (alerts, breaking updates, watchlist notifications, reminders).
- Process subscriptions and access (confirm subscription status, enforce entitlements, prevent abuse of trials).
- Personalize your experience (watchlists, alerts, preferences, recommended content).
- Improve and maintain the Service (analytics, debugging, performance monitoring, quality assurance).
- Safety and security (prevent fraud, detect abuse, enforce rate limits, investigate violations of our Terms).
- Communications (service emails, account notices, support responses; optional marketing communications if you opt in).
- Legal compliance (comply with applicable laws, respond to lawful requests, protect rights and safety).
5) Push Notifications
If you opt in to push notifications:
- We send notifications based on your in-app settings (e.g., breaking news, watchlists, reminders).
- You can disable push notifications at any time in iOS Settings (and/or within the app if we provide controls).
- Disabling notifications does not affect your ability to use the Service, but you may miss time-sensitive alerts.
6) How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information in the following circumstances:
A. Service providers
We use trusted vendors to help operate the Service, including Google Firebase for analytics and diagnostics, and other providers for hosting and support. These providers may process information on our behalf under contractual obligations to protect it and use it only to provide services to us.
B. Sharing features you control
If you use a share feature (for example, sharing a report link with a friend), the recipient may be able to view the shared content and limited associated information (such as the fact that it was shared). If you share publicly, anyone with the link may access the shared content.
C. Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate protections.
D. Legal and safety
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith it is necessary to:
- comply with law or legal process,
- respond to lawful requests,
- protect the rights, safety, and security of Vermilion, our users, or the public,
- investigate or prevent fraud or abuse.
7) Data Retention
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Retention periods vary depending on the type of data and how it is used.
8) Your Choices and Controls
You may be able to:
- Manage push notifications via iOS Settings and any in-app notification controls we provide.
- Opt out of marketing emails via unsubscribe links (service emails may still be sent).
- Request deletion of your account and associated personal information (see Section 12).
- Manage Apple Sign-In sharing via Apple ID settings.
- Limit ad tracking (iOS settings) if applicable.
9) Security
We use reasonable safeguards designed to protect information. No system is 100% secure.
10) International Users
If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where we or our service providers operate.
11) Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
12) Your Privacy Rights and Requests
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information about our processing.
13) Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice and update the "Last Updated" date.
